Русские глаголы/Russian Verbs: Conjugations
The bad news is that there is no perfect way of knowing how to conjugate a Russian verb just by looking at its infinitive. If you just guess how to conjugate based on the infinitive you can often get yourself into trouble (ex. писать).
The good news is, however, that there are a couple of tricks that will help you with spelling and stress.
-Infinitive/Инфинтив: Most often end in ТЬ but can also end in ТИ
An infinitive in Russian will usually translate as “to…”
Ex. Я люблю читать I love TO read.
Мы хотим танцевать We want TO dance.
-.Conjugations: Although verbs can conjugate strangely, there are, at least, certain endings that you can count on seeing on the end of conjugated Russian verbs. Those are:
Я | -у/-ю Ex. Я знаю | Мы | -__м Ex. Мы знаем |
Ты | -__шь *No “ты” conjugated verbs is ever written with a Щ. So that’s one less time you have to try and figure out whether you need ш or щ Ex. Ты знаешь | Вы | -__те Ex. Вы знаете |
Он/она/ оно/кто | -__т Ex. Он знает | Они | -__т Ex. Они знают |

1st and 2nd Verb Conjugations
The infinitive is of no help in Russian and can even be deceiving. To know how to conjugate Russian verbs you have to know at least two conjugation forms. You now know the typical endings for conjugations, next you need to learn what vowel goes in before those endings.
Knowing whether a verb is first or second conjugation will help you to guess the other conjugations.

Look at the following verbs, underline the vowel that is showing which conjugation it is and write to the side whether is 1st or 2nd conjugation. You don’t need to know what the verb means to identify its conjugation type.
Example : Я получаю, ты получаешь, он получает, мы получаем, вы получаете, они получают=1st
