Sciences and Humanities

  Science is systematic knowledge in general and a branch of such knowledge such as maths or chemistry. Science is any department of knowledge in which the results of investigation have been logically arranged and systematized in the form of hypotheses and general laws subject to verification. It means that all scientific hypotheses and laws should be proved to be true, should be confirmed by experimental data. Engineering is the art and science concerned with the practical application of scientific knowledge, as in the design, construction and operation of roads, bridges, buildings, machinery, communication systems, etc.

Physics, biology and chemistry are the names of some natural sciences that are taught at our Тechnical school. The humanities (or the arts) are philosophy, languages, literature, history.

What do the subjects study?

Biology is the scientific study of living things. Medicine is the science of treating and understanding illnesses Chemistry is the science that studies the substances which make up the Earth, universe and living things, how these substances combine with each other, and how they behave under different conditions. Geology is the study of the materials (rocks, oil, etc.) which make up the Earth, and of their changes during the history of the world. Geography is the study of the countries of the world and of the seas, rivers, towns, etc. on the Earth’s surface. Physics is the science concerned with the study of matter and natural forces, such as light, hear, movement, etc. the word physics is derived from the Greek word meaning nature. Some time ago physics was called natural philosophy. It is also sometimes called the science of exact measurements. The work of physics is to discover, explain and arrange systematically facts and phenomena relating to non-living things. Physics is an exact science and words used in definitions and descriptions must be precise. Several words used in everyday conversation have a more definite meaning in physics. For instance, the words mass, weight, force, energy, speed  are used as special terms when applied to physics. Physics is usually divided into sections for convenience of study. The sections of physics are mechanics, heat, magnetism, electricity. History is the study of events in the past arranged in order from the earlier to the later times. Economics is the scientific study of the way in which wealth is produced and used.

College main subjects for computer programmer include computer science, mathematics and software engineering, marketing, sales, technical resources, logical and technical support programmers. Study of computer science can lead to many opportunities for employment or graduate work in the field of information technology.

Studying the history of environmental change can enhance a healthier lifestyle for mankind, as well as prevent the extinction of plants and animals, which could disturb our ecosystems.

  The composition of crude oil

  The composition and the physical properties of crude oil differ widely  to where it was produced. It is characterized and classified by the chemical constitution of its main components and by its physical properties. It consists of paraffins, naphthenes, and aromatics (ароматические соединения) in various proportions. It also contains many impurities, sulphur and oxygen compounds.

  The compounds composed of hydrogen and carbon are called hydrocarbons.

Hydrocarbons at normal temperatures and pressures may be gaseous, liquid or solid according to the complexity of their molecules. The natural deposits are correspondingly gaseous, liquid or solid depending on the relative proportion of the various hydrocarbons present in the mixture.

  The physical operations of refining, such as vaporization, fractionation, and cooling depend on the properties of the hydrocarbons because they constitute the bulk of the oil, but the chemical operations, such as treating and filtering depend on the presence of sulfur, oxygen and nitrogen compounds and, to some extent, on the small amounts of reactive hydrocarbons that may be present. The oxygen is often combined in the form of naphthenic acids. Nitrogen is most often found in naphthene-base lfur may be present too. Some of sulfur compounds are not found in crude oil, but they are produced from other compounds during distillation and lfur compounds are particularly troublesome because they are usually foul - smelling and some of them are corrosive. They are to be removed.

  Most crude oils, although liquid as such, contain gaseous and solid hydrocarbons in solution. The gases come out of solution either on the release of pressure as the crude oil is produced or during the first stage of refining, and contribute to the total natural gas production.

  THE PROPERTIES  OF HYDROGEN SULPHIDE. SAFE WORK PROCEDURES IN GAS INDUSTRY. 

  Hydrogen sulphide, (or H2S), is a naturally occuring gas found in some geological formations. It is found in a number of industrial processes, including the production and refining of petroleum, pulp and paper, metals and sulphur compounds. H2S may be referred to as sour gas, acid gas, stink damp or sulphureted hydrogen.
H2S gas is colourless, heavier-than-air and extremely toxic. In small concentrations it has a rotten egg smell and causes eye and throat irritation. H2S can deaden your sense of smell and, at higher concentrations, causes death. For these reasons, training how to protect yourself is needed in any industry where H2S might be found. You can expect to find H2S anywhere in oil and gas industry. This means you can find H2S in piping systems, vessels, pipelines, tanks, production facilities, low spots, confined or enclosed spaces and buildings. You must be cautious when dealing with any confined space. 

The two main things to watch out for are scale and liquids. If you agitate liquids in a tank, they may release any H2S they contain. The removal of scale by steam, chemicals or grinding may also cause the release of any H2S in the scale.
H2S may be dissolved in liquids and then be released if agitated or heated. This means that gas in the liquids is released when they are circulated, pumped, flowed or swabbed into tanks. That is another reason why you would expect to find H2S at the top of open tanks and vent lines. If you are near an oil and gas facility, check the wind direction by looking at the windsocks, trees and so on. If H2S is present, it will move downwind.
