на тему Мотивированность лексических единиц английского уголовного жаргона/Motivation in English criminal slang units
Key words: slang, jargon, argot, criminal subculture, semantic motivation, morphological motivation, phonetic motivation.
My graduation paper deals with motivation in English criminal slang units. It consists of introduction, two chapters and conclusion. Actually there are very few research papers concerning motivation in criminal slang units. Understanding motivation can help better understand relations that exist ‘inside’ the word and in the whole system of a given language. Slang awareness is a must for everyone as now slang is very frequently used in colloquial speech. Criminal slang awareness, in its term, is indispensable for students of law, policemen, and penitentiary personnel. It is the bearer of traditions, experience, and culture of a social community. All of the aforementioned determine the topicality of the chosen theme. The object of my research is English criminal slang units. The subject of investigation is motivation in English criminal slang units. The main aim of my graduation research is to identify the nature and types of motivation in English criminal slang units. In my research I used the following methods of analysis of lexical units: definition analysis, componental analysis, contextual analysis. The results of my research have showed that there are lots of motivated lexical units in English criminal slang. The most common are semantically motivated lexical units. My research has demonstrated a tendency of lexical units to motivation, has revealed features of the formation of words of a particular type of motivation, and has showed the proportion of different types of motivation. My analysis may turn out to be a valuable source of information in the field of teaching English for specific purposes.
