- When did you enter that Academy?
- I entered it in September 2005, after I had finished secondary school.
- Did you pass any entrance examinations?
- Certainly, I did. I had to take examinations in History, Russian language and literature (written
and oral) and English.
- Very glad to have met you.
- Hope to see you soon again. Good-bye for the present.
- See you later. Good luck!
Poem to enjoy
From “Leisure” by W. H.Davies ()
What is life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare!
No time to see, when woods we pass
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skis at night.
No time to turn at beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance,
A poor life this is, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

- Hello, Steve. Have you got a minute?
- Sure, yes. What can I do for you?
- I’ve read a number of books on the British system of higher education but I can’t make head or tail of it.
- Mm…no wonder. What’s the problem?
- Quite a lot of problems. What I want to discuss is the difference between a university and a college.
- It’s like this, you see…The program is different. At a university it is much wide. Great attention is paid to scientific subjects.
- What is a tutorial exactly?
- Oh, it’s when students discuss topics with a tutor in very small groups – usually there are not more than three or four students and sometimes only one.
- I believe students spend a lot of time together, don’t they?
- Definitely. We have students’ societies and clubs.
- Am I right to believe that they are for those interested in music?
- Quite…and also politics, modern languages, science, literature. And what I’d like to add is that students themselves organize all those clubs and societies.
- Well, Steve. Thanks very much. You’ve been most helpful.
