Кроме того, в качестве протекционизма зарубежными инвесторами могут интерпретироваться препятствия, в действительности оказывающие негативное воздействие в равной мере как на местные, так и иностранные компании. Наиболее яркой иллюстрацией служит проблема чрезмерной коррупции в России, особенно в отдельных субъектах Федерации, где взяточничество чиновников часто перевешивает выгоды от использования хорошего инвестиционного потенциала. При таком характере проблемы российскому бизнесу важно заручаться поддержкой и формирующихся ростков гражданского общества на родине, и помощью тех европейских ТНК, которые по всему миру готовы придерживаться высоких стандартов деловой этики.
