Effective and Professional Communication
Lately, I read a book called (The 10-Second Internet Manager) which is inspired, as mentioned by the author, from a wonderful book called (The One-Minute Manager). That book was dedicated to the functions of technological managers and to those who would like to join the Internet era and technological businesses.
I read the book through listening as it was an audio book, and it included many terrific hints and presented nice stories lived by the author with famous Internet companies’ owners such as Amazon and others.
There are two very important points in this book I would like to convey to you:
The First Point: The law of functionality and success for web projects in today’s era. The author says that in order to succeed you have to:
First: Work very fast
Second: Work very smart
Third: Work very hard
Or as mentioned in the book: (Act Fast) (Act Smart) (Act Hard). It’s an amazing trio that has to be followed by anyone who wants to establish a company nowadays, whether on the web world or the real world. He should follow it in the same order and work according to it.
The Second Point: That is our topic today – effective and professional communication
Electronic mail and its importance as a communication tool:
A friend once said that his employees respond more effectively when they get the orders (tasks) face to face, and that he found their degree of concern is reduced if the communication channel/method is changed.
He classified the rate of efficiency as follows:
If the communication was face to face: efficiency rate reaches 100%
If the communication was through someone else/mediator: efficiency rate reaches 80%
If the communication was through an official printed paper: efficiency rate reaches 60%
If the communication was through phone: efficiency rate reaches 40%
If the communication was through fax: efficiency rate reaches 30%
If the communication was through email: efficiency rate reaches 20%, and it may go down to reach 5% in case the email was not opened
After considering my friends analysis to that point, I realized that his conclusions were true. I began to observe them in my daily life, and until today I’m still suffering, as my friend did, that the majority of people do not take the email seriously. The reason might be due to the fact that we firstly used it as an entertainment method and that made our minds don’t count on it as an important communication method.
