Ход урока
I. Оргмомент.
Good morning, girls and boys. I’m glad to see that all are present and we can start our work. The topic of our today’s lesson is “Is your English good enough?”
The English language is rich in idioms. Here are two of them: “Queen English” and “broken English”. The first idiom means correct English. It may be spoken in any accent, but it must be clear and intelligent. The second idiom means badly spoken English containing many mistakes in grammar and pronunciation.
Our task is to learn English well enough to speak Queen English. I hope you’ll do your best.
II. Речевая разминка.
It is well known that a billion and a half people in the world understand English and one billion are learning it. Why do so many people learn the English language?
a) They want to communicate with other people in the world.
b) Some people want to travel around the world and to understand other people.
c) Because people can find a good job abroad and earn a lot of money.
d) People can read books, watch films and listen to the songs in the original language.
e) English helps surf the Internet.
f) I think English may help become a politician.
III. Развитие навыков аудирования.
Learning a foreign language, English for example, you may have some difficulties. And it is very important to meet wise and helpful advisors as *****le or Misha Inin’s teacher Mr. Grams. Let’s remember his talk with Misha.
(прослушивание аудиозаписи текста Exercise 4, Page 94)
OK. Now I would like you to answer the questions on this text.
1 Why is four years enough to learn English?
2 Why do you have to read adapted versions of English books?
3 Why do you have to buy a dictionary?
4 Why is it useful to get a copy of the same film in Russian?
5 Why do you have to listen to cassettes?
6 Why do you have to learn texts by heart?
7 What is more important: to learn grammar rules or to use them?
8 Why do you have to write down examples of sentences with new words?
IV. Развитие грамматических навыков.
Well done. Now scan the text and find sentences with too and enough. Translate them into Russian, will you?
English isn’t too difficult.
A lot of my friends think that it’s too late to start now.
It’s not too late.
Two years is more than enough.
They don’t have enough money for private schools and trips abroad.
But they shouldn’t start with English newspapers or books which may be too difficult for beginners.
Isn’t that enough?
V. Развитие навыков диалогической речи.
Good for you. And now read the last two sentences of the text again.
Misha: … You are my favourite teacher.
Mr Grams: That’s very kind of you, Misha.
What type of sentences are these?
Open your books on page 96 and work with the rubric Conversation bricks.
Let’s do Exercise 8.
Match the reaction and its translation.
1 Oh, thank you. – b) Спасибо.
2 That’s very kind of you. – c) Это очень мило с Вашей стороны.
3 Do you really think so? – d) Вы, правда, так думаете?
4 Thank you. I needed that. – a) Спасибо, мне было нужно это услышать.
And now let’s have a compliment pliment each other and give polite answers. The person who gives the most compliments is the winner. Use the following ideas:
· English and other subjects
· Clothes and appearance
· Personal qualities that you respect
VI. Развитие навыков ознакомительного чтения.
I see you can compliment very well. Do it every day and the life of the people around you will be much better. OK?
As we know Masha regularly e-mails her brother Misha. But he also gets much information from his friends.
Here are some e-mails that Misha got. Read the problems and discuss them. Give these boys and girls your advice.
(чтение текста сообщений Exercise 10, Page 96)
VII. Развитие навыков говорения.
1 I think Marina should watch English films and listen to cassettes as much as possible to improve her ability to understand. She should also repeat things after the speaker.
2 To my mind Vova should start a vocabulary notebook and write down all the new words with the translations. It is important to write down examples with the new words to remember the place of the word in the sentence, which prepositions or articles go with it, and remember it in context.
3 I think native speakers don’t understand Den because his pronunciation is bad. He should listen to English cassettes and repeat things after the speaker to improve his pronunciation.
4 Kate wants too much. She doesn’t have to learn grammar. It is more important to use it. Kate should write down sentences with the new words to remember the place of the word in the sentence, which prepositions or articles go with it, and remember it in context. She shouldn’t start with the news on CNN, it’s too difficult for beginners. Kate should read adapted versions of books.
5 I think Sveta has no good motivation. She learns English because her mother makes her to. She doesn’t work enough. Sveta should learn English regularly. It is important to repeat words and grammar rules, to read, to listen to the cassettes as often as you can.
VIII. Развитие навыков письменной речи
Thank you for your answers. Open your Workbooks 2 on page 9 and do Exercise 5. Match the problems for Mr. Help’s answers.
IX. Подведение итогов урока и выставление оценок.
I’m satisfied with the work you did at the lesson. I hope you will remember all recommendations given by Mr. Grams and Mr. Help and you’ll make progress in learning English. Your homework is to write 5 – 7 sentences about your problems with English and what you should do to solve them.
The lesson is over. See you tomorrow.
