In a murder investigation, some suspects were asked by police what they had been doing at eight o’clock the previous evening. They all told lies. Make sentences to explain what they told the police they had been doing, and what they had actually been doing.

Model: Mrs Oliver said she had been reading, but actually she had been watching the neighbours through binoculars.

Use the Past Perfect or the Past Perfect Continuous.

1. Maggie worked in the garden all afternoon. Then she took a hot bath.

Use the Past Indefinite, the Past Continuous or the Past Perfect Continuous instead of the infinitives in brackets.

Use any appropriate tenses.

Dear Ann,
