Today the interest to the problem concerning German colonists in the Volga region has increased. “The Diaries of Martin Klaassen”, written in the middle of the XIXth century, is a brilliant source for history of the Volga German Mennonite community. Martin Klaassen (1820-1881), the author of “The Diaries“, was a school teacher in Kцppental – a small Mennonite colony on the bank of the Tarlyk River. “The Diaries” represents the pictures of the Russians and Germans everyday life in the middle of the 19th century.
