1st : Tell us, Cinderella, do you want to go to the ball?

C: Oh don’t laugh at me. Nobody will let me in.

1st : Of course, not. You have no beautiful dresses.

2nd : You are too dirty to go there. Well, let’s go.

Fairy: Why are you crying my child?

C: I cannot go to the ball, I have neither a beautiful dress, nor glass slippers.

F: My dear, I’ll help you and you will go to the ball. Here is a white dress and here are glass slippers for you. But remember: you must go home at twelve o’clock.

1st and 2nd : Oh Cinderella, we beg you pardon!

C: I pardon you. Good-bye!

A competition in English for little children.

Dear comrades! Today we have very interesting competitions between two fourth forms. They study English only one year. But they know very much. And today children will show us everything, what they can do.

First of all, I want to introduce you the members of our jury. They are. . . I hope they will be just and value your know ledge. At the end they name the winner our competitions.

I. The first our competition. The teams must introduce each other. I give the first word to the leader of "Kittens". Will you say some words about your team.

Leader: The name of our team is «Kittens». We are pupits in the fourth form. We are 20. We study English, Russian, literature, mathematic and others. We can read English and Russian books. We are good friends. We help each other. And what about you?

I give the word to the leader of «Foxes».

(The leader introduces his team).

(The word is given to the jury. They declare the results of the first competition).

П. And now, let's play. Listen to me. I ask you a question and you must answer. The more sentences you'll say the better. The first question is to «Kittens».

Tell me, please, what is white?

The second question is to «Foxes».

Tell me, please, what is green?

(The trees are green. The grass is green. Etc.)

(You may give children different colours).

Ш. Your hometask was to prepare three poems. Let us read them.

(Children read their poems. At the end jury declare results).

I love learning English.

I can read, I can write,

I can speak English, too.

I love learning English!

I have many pencils;

I'll draw a nice picture

IY. Children, I know you like to guess riddles. Now, I suggest some of them to you.

1) What is it?

It is red and sweet,

And it's good to eat. (An apple).

2) What season is it?

This is the season,

When days are cool,

When we eat apples

And go to school. (An autumn).

3) What are they?

We have friends,

They cannot play

And cannot see,

But they are good

To you and me. (Books).

4) How many cats?

There are four corners in the room.

There is one cat in each corner. In front of each cat there are three cats.

How many cats are there in the room? (Four cats).

5) What am I?

a) I'm black, b) I don’t know

And red, and blue, The ABC,

I draw a picture But I’m writing

For you. As you can see.

6) What is it?

In can tell you all the day!

Time to sleep and time to play.

(The clock).

Y. I need two children from each e to me. These are letters of the alphabet. You must put them in the right way and then call them correctly. The first will be winner.

YI. Now I need one pupil from each team, who can read best of all.

These are two texts. You must read them correctly, in a good way.

Look through them. Then we shall listen to you.

(Children read in a whisper for some minutes).

YTT. And we shall play. I shall tell you rhymes and you must complete them.

IX. I need one pupil from each team. You must put in the right way the days of the week and read them correctly. The first will be winner.

(Children take the cards with words a put them in the right way).

X. Your home task was to prepare one game. Let's show it. Who will be the first?

CAT (rising): Children, I am going to buy something for supper. You must be good and sit still, or the Wolf will hear you.

BLACK KITTEN: I shall read and sit very still.

GREY KITTEN: I shall write and sit very still.

WHITE KITTEN: I shall look out of window and sit very still.

WOLF (to himself): Big cat is not at home. I shall go into the house and eat up all her kittens. What a good supper I shall have.

KITTENS (all together): Who is that?

WOLF: It’s me, your mother. Open the door.

WHITE KITTEN: Show me your paw though the window.

WHITE KITTEN: This is not Mother’s paw. Mother’s paw is white, and your paw is black. I shall not open the door to you.

KITTENS (together): Who is that?

WOLF: It’s me your mother. Open the door.

KITTENS: Show us your paw.

KITTENS: Your paw looks very white, but your voice is not sweet. You are not our mother.

WOLF (to himself): What can I do to make my voice sweet? Oh, I know, I shall eat sugar and my voice will be sweet.

KITTENS: Who is that?

WOLF (in a sweet voice): It’s me your mother. Open the door.

KITTENS: That is mother! That is mother! Let’s open the door.

WOLF: Ha-ha! It’s not your mother. It’s me, the Wolf. I shall eat you up, dear kittens!

WHITE KITTEN: Ha-ha Big Wolf, you don’t see us.

GREY KITTEN: Hay, Big Wolf, you cannot eat us up.

BLACK KITTEN: Go home, Bad Wolf; you will have no supper.

CAT: My little kittens, open the door to you mother.

CAT: Children, where are you?

BLACK KITTEN: Oh, mother, the Wolf is here.

WHITE KITTEN: The Wolf wanted to eat us up.

In the wood

Red Hood: How nice it is there in the wood! There are many trees, flowers, mushrooms there. I’ll pick some flowers for my Granny.

The wolf appears

Wolf: I am big and grey. I live in the wood. I want to eat you, little Red Riding Hood!

Red Hood: Good morning, Mr. Wolf! Marry Christmas!

Wolf: Where are you going?

Red Hood: I am going to my e with me.

Wolf: Where does she live?

Red Hood: She lives in a little house near the river. It is not far from e with me, please!

Wolf: but does she live alone?

Red hood: Yes, but why don’t you want to go with me?

Wolf: I’m busy. I’m preparing for Christmas party. I want to make a big cake.
