Festivals are now playing a significant role in tourism development. Research indicates that they are the fastest growing tourist attractions. Some events such as the Edinburgh festival, or the carnivals of Rio and Venice are well-established but many Asian and Pacific countries are beginning to take advantage of festivals with good tourism potential. The time is right to examine this field in depth. Please make a list of festivals and make recommendations as to which we should offer our Universiade guests. Please summarize why you think the festival is important, who it will appeal to and why it will attract tourists. Thank you in advance.

International culture festivals
Being the center of culture of the Republic of Tatarstan Kazan annually hosts numerous international culture and art festivals.
The annual international festival of modern music “Europe-Asia”.
The main purpose of the festival is to perform the most modern and new music. Originating in 1992 as the festival of Japanese and Tatar music, in a year it became an international one, where famous Russian and foreign composers and musicians from Germany, France, Sweden, Mongolia, Luxemburg, USA, Norway, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and many other countries take part. The festival is organized by the Composers’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan.
International festival “Jazz crossroads”
Prestigious jazz forum has been held in Kazan since 1984. Musicians from Germany, Scandinavian countries, Australia and USA participate in it.
International opera festival named after Fedor Shalyapin is one of the main events in the musical and theatrical life in Kazan. The festival has been held annually in Musa Jalil opera and ballet theatre for eighteen years already. It is the oldest and the most unique opera festival not only in Tatarstan but also in Russia.
Rudolf Nuriev International ballet festival
The festival is held every year in commemoration of the great dancer Rudolf Nuriev, who began his career in Kazan opera and ballet theatre.
In 1992 in “The Nutcracker” Rudolf Nuriev acted as the ballet conductor. Having completed the career of the dancer, he became the conductor of “The Nutcracker”. Nuriev agreed to give his name to the festival of the classical ballet held in Kazan.
International piano music festival “Pianoforum” is organized by the Kazan State Conservatoire. According to the tradition every year “Pianoforum” is named after one of the greatest musicians or pianists. All the concerts are held in the Salikh Saydashev Concert Hall.
International music and literature festival “Aksenov-fest” in honour of the dissident writer Vassily Aksenov has been held in Kazan since 2007. The first festival was dedicated to the writer’s 75th anniversary. Vassily Aksenov, Mikhail Veller, Bella Akmadullina Andrey Makarevich have become the guests of the festival.
