Раздел I Процедуры ведения радиопереговоров по бедствию. (Аварийный УВК обмен).
Тип процедуры «Бедствие» (distress) используется в том случае, когда судно подвергается тяжелой и неминуемой опасности и требует немедленной помощи.
1.1 Построение первоначального аварийного сообщения.
1. Аварийное сообщение начинается с опознавательного слова MAYDAY (Мэдэ, Мэйдэй) которое произносится три раза.
2. Сочетание THIS IS, после которого следует тип и название передающей станции (судна), произносимое три раза THIS IS motor-vessel CHAMPION CHAMPION CHAMPION
3. Повторение один раз опознавательного слова MAYDAY
4. Повторение один раз названия передающей станции и ее позывных CHAMPION, MY CALL SIGN IS alfa delta uniform romeo
5. Местоположение судна
MY PОSITION : LATITUDE: five-zero degrees three-zero minutes North, LONGITUDE: zero-three-nine degrees two-zero minutes West
6. Краткое описание происшествия: FIRE IN ENGINE ROOM
7. Требуемая помощь: request immediate assistance
8. Стандартное слова OVER, обозначающее переход на прием.

Примечание № 1
Во время сообщения такие стандартные фразы, как Мy call sign (мой позывной), мy position (мое местоположение), latitude (широта), longitude (долгота) могут не произноситься. Тип судна также может не указываться. Сообщение в таком случае выглядит так:

Место положение может быть выражено в расстоянии и пеленге.
Например: position: bearing zero-nine-zero degrees true, distance: one-five miles from Trabzon – местоположение: пеленг 090° истинный, расстояние 15 миль от Трабзона.

1.2 Прием первоначального аварийного сообщения.
Прием каждого первоначального сообщения о бедствии должен быть
подтвержден принявшей станцией.
Подтверждение состоит из:
1. опознавательного слова MAYDAY
2. наименования аварийной станции (названия судна, терпящего бедствие), произносимого три раза и ее позывного.

1.3 Сообщение содержащие предложение помощи
Из этого сообщения аварийное судно или силы помощи и спасения получают информацию, которая дает им возможность определить, кто способен оказать помощь.
Такое сообщение состоит из:
1. опознавательного слова Mayday
2. наименования аварийной станции,
MONA LISA
3. наименование станции, предлагающей помощь
THIS IS ADONIA
4. местоположения станции, предлагающей помощь, с указанием времени

5. скорости, с которой судно идет к месту аварии
