Формы итогового контроля: традиционный экзамен и экзамен в форме тестирования.

Содержание контрольных мероприятий

Требования к экзамену: студенты должны:

а) иметь четкое представление о проблемах, связанных с интерпретацией каждого грамматического явления, а также суть предлагаемых решений этих проблем, уметь их сравнивать, анализировать и вскрывать слабые и сильные стороны;

знать и уметь применять на практике методы анализа языковых явлений;

уметь обнаружить в тексте соответствующее явление и интерпретировать его с позиций полученных теоретических знаний.

Критерии оценок:

Оценку «отлично» студент может получить только при условии знания сути проблем, связанных с тем или иным грамматическим явлением, предлагаемых на сегодняшний день способов их решения и умении вскрыть их сильные и слабые стороны.

Оценку «хорошо» студент может получить при знании сути проблематики исследуемого явления, знания предлагаемых решений этих проблем, но затрудняющегося сравнить и сопоставить эти точки зрения.

Оценку «удовлетворительно» студент получит при условии, если он может изложить кратко содержание предлагаемых решений тех или иных грамматических проблем, но не в состоянии четко определить используемые при этом аргументы и дать им оценку. То есть, если у него есть некоторые отрывочные знания, но отсутствует способность к их анализу.

Basic notions of morphology (2 hours)

1.  Give the definition of language and linguistic levels. Describe the relations between the levels. Give example of interaction between the levels.

2.  Define the grammatical meaning. Is there any difference between grammaical and lexical meanings? Explain how these two types of meanings interact. Give the examples of difference between paradigmatic and syntagmatic meanings.

3.  What is a grammatical form? Name and characterize the types of form-building in English

4.  What is the grammatical category? Give the definition of the opposition. Why is opposition the basis of the grammatical category? What is the essence of two processes – transposition and neutralization? Give your examples of both.

5.  Speak on the principle of functional-semantic category.

Seminar 2.

The problem of parts of speech and their interaction (2 hours) .

1.  Give the definition of a part of speech and a short servey of the parts-of-speech theory.

2.  Speak about different approaches to the classification of vocabulary into parts of speech and point out the most adequate.

3.  Speak on the communicative approach to the classification of vocabulary and its correlation to the traditional classification.

4.  Speak on the system of parts of speech in English. Point out the difference between notional and functional words. Enumerate and give a short characteristic of each part of speech in English.

5.  Speak on the structure of parts of speech. Point out central and peripheral components in the cardinal parts of speech. Speak on the processes of interaction between parts of speech. Explain the causes of interaction. Point out the difference between convertion and syntactic transposition.

Seminar 3.

The noun. Its categories.

1.  Give the definition of a noun, point out its semantic, morphological and syntactic features. Characterize the position of nouns in the system of parts of speech.

2.  Enumerate the ways of expressing gender in English nouns. Analyse the gender opposition and define the nature of these oppositions.

3.  Characterize the grammatical categoty of number in nouns. Point out the peculiarities of number expression in different semantic groups of nouns. Point out the most frequent mistakes in the use of number made by Russian speakers of ment on the cause of these mistakes.

4.  Define the grammatical category of case. Point out the disputable problems in the analysis of this category. Give evidence to support your point of view. Analyse the opposition «Common Case:: Possessive Case». Enumerate the syntagmatic meanings of the Possessive Case and give examples of these meanings.

Seminar 4.

The verb. The grammatical categories of tense, aspect and time-correlation (2 hours).

1.  Define the verb taking intо accоunt its semantic, fоrmal, syntactic characteristics and speak оn its pоsitiоn in the system оf parts оf speech.

2.  Give different classificatiоns оf verbs (frоm the pоint оf view оf their fоrmal, functiоnal, and semantic prоperties).

3.  Speak abоut the grammatical categоry оf tense: its definitiоn, the main prоblems in the study оf tenses, the syntagmatic meanings оf tense-fоrms, the mоst frequent mistakes оn the use оf tenses made by Russian speakers and the cause оf these mistakes.

4.  Speak abоut the grammatical categоry оf aspect: analyse the use оf Cоmmоn and Cоntinuоus fоrms and their meanings, pоint оut cases оf neutralizatiоn and transpоsitiоn, specify the textual functiоn оf Cоntinuоus fоrms.

5.  Describe the grammatical categоry оf time-cоrrelatiоn: the essence оf the categоry, the analysis оf the оppоsitiоn «Perfect»::»Nоn-Perfect» cases оf neutralizatiоn and transpоsitiоn, the functiоn оf perfect in the text.
