Источники Пасхи. Origins of Easter.

Easter has its origins in pre-Christian times. Our ancestors believed that the sun died in winter and was born a new in spring. Easter celebrates the rebirth of Christ.

People in England celebrate Easter every spring. Easter lasts for a week. The 3 most important days are Monday, Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. On Monday or Thursday the king or the queen of England gives money to poor people.

This tradition is very old. On Good Friday people eat fish instead of meat. They also eat special hot cakes with a cross on the top. They call these cakes hot cross buns.

On Easter Sunday people eat a traditional roast dinner with lamb, potatoes and vegetables. They also give each other chocolate Easter eggs. Easter is fun for children. They often decorate real eggs in pretty Easter colours.

They can also have an Easter egg hunt outside. Parents hide Easter eggs in their gardens and the children try to find as many as they can and put them I their baskets. People tell their children that the Easter Bunny brings the eggs. Bunnies and rabbits are symbols of Easter.

НЕ нашли? Не то? Что вы ищете?

People celebrate the holiday according to the beliefs and their religious denominations. Christians commemorate Good Friday as the day that Jesus Christ died and Easter Sunday as the day that he was resurrected. Eggs are symbols of continuing of life and resurrection.

Традиционная еда. Traditional Food.

Hot Cross Buns are traditionally served on Good Friday.

Boiled Eggs are traditionally served at breakfast.
