Dasha: It's me, Dasha. First of all, here is your prize. And then tell us if writing of rhymes and poems is spending of your free time.

Dasha: You are right. I am fond of poetry. I try to write something myself and for myself. I attend the lessons of our school poetry club. I began to do it not long ago. You see, I waste my time before TV-set. Then I read one of the books of poetry by Pushkin and couldn't stop my reading. I was not sure I can do something like that, but decided to try. Then I had some success. And I decided to continue this wonderful pastime.

Nick: Have you got any poems for us? Are you ready to recite them?

Dasha: I will do it with great pleasure. It is devoted to my favourite summer.

Lena: So talented our pupils are! I know that here there are some more of them. What do you devote your free time, dear friends?

Pupils: We attend our school drama club. Some of us are succesful in playing. And we can prove it just now.

Lena: What can we see?

Pupils: It is a very actual sketch about smoking. I hope you will like it.

Court secretary: Attention! We are ready to begin our actions against Mr. Cigarette.

Judge: First, let us listen to Mr. Tabacco.

Tabacco: I came to your place from America. Native people smoked me for harmony in their hearts and souls. After some time I won Europe. A lot of people liked me very much.

Judge: But why to speak so good and nice about yourself? You, Mr. Tabacco, do harm to a lot of people in the world.

Tabacco: Is it only me? It's better to ask about everything the French ambassador Mr. Zhak Nico. He brought me to France and presented everyone in the King's Palace with tabacco.

Zhak Nico: I was sure that tabacco is very useful for sick people who suffered from pain. I knew nothing bad about harm. But now i see that I was wrong.

Judge: You didn't know. But you have to answer for harm. Now let us listen to the witness (свидетель). This is a schoolboy. And he has got a lot of troubles because of smoking.

Boy – witness: I became the slave of Mr. Tabacco. I can think about nothing instead of smoking. Without smoking I can't even begin to do my homework. I ask: Why does Mr. Tabacco do me a lot of harm? Nicotine is very dangerous for children.

Nicotine: Is it only my fault? Why not to ask this charming lady? I am speaking now about Mrs. Cigarette.

Cigarette: Oh, yes, I can do people weak-willed (безвольный). I like people without any shade of will.

Judge: I came to the conclusion (вывод) that you have to answer too. You do a lot of harm to people as well. Did you hear anything that you were forbidden at some places? Smoking was forbidden (запрещено) at schools.

Cigarette: I know about it. But do your people know about it? It seems to me that they don't. They smoke and smoke anywhere. Your people give a bad example to their children. Look at this boy. He smokes even at school. Does he know about the law for smoking?

Judge: But how to help people to get rid of this bad habit? What to do? Let us ask our psychologist.

Psychologist: I'd like to say that there are a lot of bad temptations (соблазнов) in the world. But to follow them or not – that depends on a person itself. Everyone must know that smoking can't save you from problems. You can't avoid (избежать) problems with the help of smoking. Your problems won't go away. But you health will be getting worse.

Doctor: Those who smoke are sick people. First of all we must help them to overcome their bad habit. So I would like to say: You are welcome to a special medical room at the hospital. I can help you to give up smoking, to get rid of that bad habit.

Judge: My verdict is: to gather all smoking boys and girls together and let them to visit a doctor, to give them a chance to get rid of their bad habit. They must become healthy. I see that some of them are boring. But this verdict is not to be discussed. They must be healthy.

Lena: Thank you for these pleasant minutes with your heroes. And now, I am interested in that group boys and girls. Would you like to tell us about your pastime?

Girl: Frankly speaking, we almost haven't got so called pastime. Our pastime is devoted to additional English studies. We attend the lessons of our school English club.

Lena: Does it mean you haven't had a minute to spare? You are such hard-working boys and girls.

Girl: It's a pure truth (чистая правда). We try to do our best in English. And we have to work much to improve our English.

Boy: We are very busy with our research work. And we like to know as much as possible about the history and culture of English speaking countries. This time we are studying the origin of some English and American songs.

Lena: Can we hear something about it?

Girl: Certainly, you can. And we are going even to sing one of the folk songs. This song is about Billy Boy. Now there are some words about the creation of this song. The first European settlers came to America in the 1600-th. Most of them spoke English. They brought to America their language, traditions and skills, and their songs as well. One of these songs was the song «Billy Boy».

Boy: In the New World as in the Old one, women were busy with housework. In their families people did and made almost all they eat and wear. Women could do and make much. Besides working in the fields together with their husbands, they have to cook, sew and nit. The girl who had great skills in it became a very valuable wife.

Girl: In the song «Billy Boy» Mother asks her son questions about the girl he is going to marry. Like other mothers she likes to have the best girl for her son. Billy loves her girl very much. And he tries to tell his mother the super qualities of the girl. He tries to tell his mum about the girl with a sense of humour.

Boy: Billy is the short form from the name William. Americans say Billy when they address to young men. The mother is interested in the girl's dowry (приданое). I can mention that a mattress that was full of geese's feather was a real richness.

Girl: I'd like to add that the verb «seek» is used instead of look for. And with the help of young thing instead of young girl they want to underline the youth of Billy's girl. And now there is a song with its original text.

Leader 2: Oh, no. I'd like to say: Let us discuss teens' problems together. The problem of adults and their children is not a new one. You think too often that your parents are not right. And what is about you? Are you always right?

Leader 1: A lot of us are sure that adults don't understand us. They think that we are carefree, that we can't feel responsibility. They are sure that we can't think nothing but entertainment, friends and parties. They can't understand that we've got a lot of problems we have to decide.

Leader 2: So, let's discuss them. May be some of our guests will be able to help you. They are ready to listen to you, to hear you and to give you a good piece of advice.

Leader 2 introduces so called «guests» of the teens' party. They are: a psychologist and a doctor.

Leader 1: Well, we are teenagers. We would like to discuss our problems.

Teenager 1: You see, I am in love with the girl from another school. She is gorgeous (потрясающая). She is always wearing the great gear (прикид). As for me I can't wear such clothes. A lot of boys usually meet «my girl» after school. I am among them. But she doesn't pay attention to me. My clothes are ordinary, because my parents can't buy very modern and expensive clothes. I can understand them. There are two children more in our family. And my granny is ill. Parents have to help her. My love is my problem. What to do to win her nice look? What to do to attract her attention?

Psychologist: What are her other tastes besides her «great gear»? Did you try to know it?

Teenager 1: Oh, she is fond of singing. And she plays guitar perfectly. Besides she is one of the best pupils of her school.

Psychologist: And what can you say about your experience? I consider you know what to do. All what you have just told us about her should be the plan of your actions.

Teenager 1: My points are very high last time. I began to play guitar. I try to learn to sing, though my mum says that I won't be a great singer. But she supports me in my will to be better and more interesting for my friends. And I am very thankful to my mum for it. Besides my good marks and guitar I wrote a song. I hope my favourite girl will sing her for me one day.

Psychologist: Would you like to sing it for us? Can we become your first judges?

Teenager 1: Listen to it please. It is about our teen's life.

We are teenagers, we are so young.

Sometimes we can't,

Can't avoid some problems and harm.

Well, I am a teen,

Why I must be bad?

I am always like you,

And I am often sad.

Sometimes I am going to cry,

Because all dreams of mine are vain.

And your accusation of me

Is wrongful and strange.

We are wrong as a rule

We are wrong day after day.

We are both wrong as a rule, by the way.

When everything's wrong and you'd like to cry,

Psychologist: First of all, thank you for your song. It is nice and positive. Then I'd like to say that you are on the right way. I am sure your dreams will come true.

Pupil 2: Frankly speaking, I have got another kind of problem. Would you like to know the name of my problem? So let us guess the puzzle of mine. You see, when I am sad and not satisfied with my life, I don't sing or cry. I try to make my mine to work. And I complete different puzzles. Study one of them and try to guess my problem.

Pupil 2: Now you see that money is my problem. First of all, that is my pocket money. I'd like to spend them here and there. Besides it, I still haven't got a cool computer and a mobile phone that other my friends have got. You know such mobile phones that allow you to surf the Internet (бродить по интернету) as well as make calls.

Psychologist: To spend money that was not earned is an easy thing. Do your parents work? I mean both of them?

Pupil 2: Yes, they do. And I know they earn enough money to buy me all things I want. But they say that I am interested only in easy things in my life such as parties and friends. They say I am a carefree person and that I have got quite enough for a boy of my age.

Psychologist: Deep in your heart don't you believe that they are right?

Pupil 2: Sometimes I think in this way.

Psychologist: And haven't you ever thought about a part-time job in summer? Don't you like to prove your parents that you are not such a carefree person as they think?

Pupil 2: That's a good idea! Anyhow (во всяком случае) I will be able to have got some money of my own. It won't be necessary to ask my parents for some money every time I need to buy any small things.

Pupil 3: I see your parents are interested in you and your problems. Maybe you don't like everything they say. But they listen to you. As for me I am sure that my problems are interesting only to me. My parents don't ask me about my problems. They speak and speak themselves all the time. Every time I am going to leave the flat they say: Where are you going? Who are you going with? Don't be e in time. Have you already done your homework? Why are your clothes so strange? What an awful haircut have you got today? Are you and your friends going to drink or smoke tonight? Be careful about your behavior and so on and etc. Sometimes I can't catch a second to answer them.

Psychologist: I have to say that you have to listen to the ordinary parents' speech and questions. Because they worry, they try to take care of you. They don't like you to have trouble.

Pupil 3: But they speak and speak, they don't listen to me. I am not a child. It seems to me they don't like to notice it. I'd like to be independent. I hate to feel their everyday's gardianship (опека).

Psychologist: Have you been in trouble anytime? And who helped you in a difficult situation?

Pupil 3: You are right. Once I was in a very difficult situation when one of my so called friends involved me in a very rude action. My parents helped me. And I am very thankful them for it. And I love my parents. But sometimes they would like to know too much. Can't I have any secrets of mine?

Psychologist: Certainly you can. But you mustn't forget about that wrong situation in your life first of all. And then you have to remember that the more your so called secrets of your own they know the easier they will be able to help you. Some of your secrets may be not such harmless as you think.

Pupil 4: You are right. I agree with your words all in all (полностью). As for me I haven't got any secrets from my parents. Naturally, some of them are only for my mum, and some of them are only for my dad. I'm sure they wish me a great deal of health, luck and success. So why not to believe them if they try to do their best about me? Why not to trust them? Sometimes we have something like discussion on different questions and problems of our life. But we always try to come to the reasonable (разумный) conclusion. I consider my parents are wise persons. They live longer than me. They have learned more from their life than me. They try to understand me in my youth questions. And I can rely on their opinion almost in everything. Last month it was my mum's birthday. That is what I have written for her.

I'd like to say: My dear Mum,

I'm thankful for everything you have done.

I'm thankful for all your sleepless nights,

For my success in this life, for my family rights.

I find myself wondering

You can be so kind and strong

When I'm in trouble, and when I am wrong.

Pupil 5: It is good if you are nice and your parents are so good persons. I can say about my parents a lot of good. But what can I say about me and my life? Sometimes I have some questions to both of them.

But it's awful to be alone and not to cry.

So my question is: What to do in such a situation?

Psychologist: First of all not to cry and believe in yourself, because your life position is quite right. I can say that you are a very strong person. As I can notice you are a girl who can say «no» to the wrong influence upon you and your life. If I am not mistaken, you are a good pupil, aren't you?

Pupil 5: Yes, I am. And I don't want to change my life into silly things. But I know that some of the girls would like to. As for me I'd like to achieve much in my life. So first of all I try to do my best in learning. I haven't got free time to hang about here and there and go with the flow (плыть по течению). But some of the girls are in despair because they can't fit in the fashion school group of cool boys and girls. Sometimes I can understand them, because they are teens and they want to live like others who are around them. As for me, sometimes I feel pressure of my classmates. They asked me: Why are you aren't with us? Maybe you are too proud? Maybe you think we are not enough good for you?

Psychologist: You should overcome this pressure. Your aim is right and nice. And when you achieve it you'll become older and wiser. Then you'll be able to let yourself much and chose those things and actions that are right and useful.

Pupil 6: Isn't it boring to live and behave like a very sweet girl and not to be sometimes a naughty one? Only studies and right things, no noisy companies and merry parties that is too boring.

Pupil 5: That is not boring for me, because I can realize that if I want to achieve my gain (достичь своей цели) I have to give up so called «pleasant things». Furthermore (к тому же) those «pleasant things» are not always right and safe (безопасный).

Pupil 6: Are you speaking about teen's smoking and alcohol problems? Some of the teens say:

If you can't smoke, so you are sick.

Don't you want to be cool, my dear Nick?

If you can't drink, you are mum's sun.

And you can't have got a lot of fun.

Pupil 5: So silly rhyme, I'd like to say. Why to repeat so poor «poems»? It is better to speak about healthy life and good habits:

If you like to have health, want to get some of wealth

Try to learn, work and swim. You'll be healthy and slim.

Do your best every day. Follow my friend this way!

And now I am speaking not only about teen's smoking and alcohol problems. Everybody knows that pot (марихуана) and drugs are the teen's problem nowadays as well. I heard that some of the boys and girls were afraid of going to a school toilet.

Doctor: Dear friends, I was listening all of you very attentively. And I was waiting for a moment you begin to speak about this problem. You know, a lot of parents come to my medical room to discuss this horrible problem connected with smoking, alcohol, pot and drugs. In some school toilets their children come face to face with elder pupils who offer the young ones to smoke pot and not only that.

Pupil 6: I think that is the question to be discussed by the adults: our parents and teachers. What can we do? Not much. The adults must do everything they can to prevent (уберечь) us from those «cool boys».

Doctor: You are right. On one hand that is their question. But on the other hand you can't pretend (притворяться) you can see nothing wrong around you. First of all you must learn to say «no» if you are offered something wrong or safe.

Psychologist: Dear friends, would you like to say some more about your problems? In what words can you describe your problems?

Pupil 7: I'd like to say some words with the help of rhyme.

We've got lots of pressure in all:

We depend on the parents and teachers,

And we are forbidden to stroll (гулять, странствовать).

We must every day learn and learn.

We mustn't sing our «strange songs».

We mustn't paint on the wall.

Well dear friends, do we live after all?

Psychologist: I see you have got a sense of humor. But what is about our research?

Pupil 8: I'd like you to see the results of it. There were some questions to the parents and their children.

The conclusion is :

Most parents have got claims to their children.

Most children have got claims to their parents.

What is the reason?

- Parents and their children very often can't understand each other.

- Some of them haven't got any wish for it.

- Some of them are lack of skill (неумение) to do it.

What is the result?

- Both sides suffer from it.

- Nobody wins in this «battle».

What is important?

- to speak to each other;

- to discuss problems;

- to listen to each other, to hear and understand;

- to have respect (уважение) to the interests of other person;

- to take into account (учитывать) the interests of each other;

Psychologist: It is not easy to do, but the result is worth it.

Listening to music we are getting better

There are pleasant sounds of music in the hall. The leader of the party listens to music then says:

Music is for my heart,

Music is for my soul,

Music is for my rest,

Music, you are for all.

You are the sounds of wind,

You are the wings of my feeling.

And if I touch your strings

You are my magic really!

What does music mean in our life? As for me that is what I have just said. And what does music mean for you, dear friends?

- If I hear music I am going to dance and dance. So music for me is motion.
